By The Broadwater and Sandy Bay

This ride links the former Lagan Canal to Lough Neagh then returns following part of the route of the former Antrim to Lisburn railway line between Glenavy and Upper Ballinderry

Starting at Moira Main Street the ride turns left into Station Road and just before the level crossing at the railway station take a sharp turn right and join the towpath at the rear of the cycle parking stand. Follow the towpath, (initially tarred surface then a hard packed gravel surface), beside the Lagan Canal and the Broadwater (with its numerous swans) taking care and being watchful for walkers especially under the bridges and fishermen who line the banks. Continue past the Sluicekeeper’s House and eventually reach the Soldierstown Road at Aghalee. Turn right and at the next T turn right, climb up the hill and take the second road on the right, Chapel Road. In approx. half a mile turn left into Gortraney Road and continue to a T junction. Here, turn right then take the first left, Haddockstown Road. At a minor T junction keep left and continue to another T junction. Turn left and continue to the crossroads with the B12. Go straight over into Ogales Road and in just over a mile turn left onto Feumore Road. Take the first road on the right, Shore Road, and follow the NCN Route 94 (The Loughshore Trail). Continue along the lough shore eventually turning left at a T junction with the Ballyvannon Road then left onto the Lurgan Road. In just under half a mile turn right into Pigeonstown Road, continue and reach Glenavy by the Crumlin Road. Leave Glenavy by the Crumlin Road turning right into Glen Road. Continue on the Glen Road, which becomes Scroggy Road, making sure to keep right immediately after passing over the railway line about a mile past Ballymacricket. At the next crossroads turn right, pass over the railway line again and then turn left into Irwinstown Lane. At the next T junction turn left and follow this road to Upper Ballinderry. At Upper Ballinderry, turn right and in approx. one mile turn left into Magees Road. Keep on this road to a T junction with Chapel road. Turn right to reach the B12. Turn left and in a few hundred yards turn left into Old Church Lane (easily missed if going too fast downhill) Continue on this road, with its views over the Broadwater off to the right, to a staggered crossroads. Go straight over into Chestnut Hill Road and at the next T junction turn right, pass over the level crossing and retrace the ride to Moira via Station Road and Main Street.
