A Family Day Out In Antrim, Lough Neagh

A fun filled day out around Lough Neagh and Antrim town, perfect for families with kids

Take the kids to Lough Neagh

It’s summer time and the kids are off school, now is the perfect time to get out of the house with a fun filled trip to some of Northern Ireland’s best attractions. We’ve provided a list of three great places to visit along with a few other ideas along the way if you want to change things up to your own liking.

The first family day out is  around Antrim town and there’s plenty of fun for all ages.

Antrim Castle Gardens, Lough Neagh

One of the biggest attractions around Lough Neagh is Antrim Castle Gardens, a fantastic family-friendly garden with a rich history. The gardens have a history tracing back 400 years, one that has left its mark on these stunning gardens, from the Castle ruins to the round tower nearby, and the various other landmarks that dot the landscape. It’s a lovely way to spend the afternoon and with all of it’s nooks and cranny’s there’s plenty to pique the interest of the kids as well. The gardens directly connect to the Lough Shore Park and I would encourage you to take the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful views from the shore of the lough. The Junction One Shopping Outlet is close by, with plenty of shops, eateries and coffee shops in close proximity to the Gardens.

Antrim Forum Leisure Centre

Next stop on our day out is a trip to Antrim Forum Leisure Centre (perfect for a rainy day) which offers, amongst many other things, swimming and six 10 pin bowling lanes for families to enjoy. For kids the smaller pool offers a water mushroom and a small slide provides kids with a great opportunity for an hour or two of fun, with a separate 25m pool being available for adults and competent swimmers. The cosmic themed 10 pin bowling alley is a site to behold with its UV lighting, the entire room provides an exciting glow in the dark aesthetic. it’s a great way to spend an afternoon of friendly competition with the entire family.

Clementsmount Fun Farm

Our last stop is a well hidden gem on the outskirts of Crumlin, Clementsmount Fun Farm. The farm is a fully operational farm which for the last 10 years has provided a massive range of fun activities for kids which are sure to keep them entertained for hours. Clementsmount offers a range of indoor and outdoor activities including petting barn, pedal go-karts, soft play area, trim trail and pony rides among many other activities. With so many activities, a whole day could be dedicated to enjoying all of the fun activities that is has to offer. For any parents, the farm also has a tea room offering home baked treats, a great way to sit back and relax while the children are enjoying themselves. If you have any time or energy left after all this excitement, I would recommend enjoying a walk around Crumlin Glen and taking a moment to visit the waterfall, a truly pleasant way to finish the day.
